Engagements – Christie & Alex

Bride to Be: Christie Felts
Groom to Be: Alexander Perkins
Wedding Date: October 06, 2012
Photos Taken by: Darrell Moye of Moye Photography

The countdown has begun for this lovely couples October wedding. Christie and Alex, both Southwest alumi, meet in high school. However, Alex  was older than Christie so they only spoke  in passing. Christie and Alex were reunited in  2010, on  4th of July weekend, at a local nightspot. They talked over drinks and enjoyed a late night snack at the Waffle House.  Their romance began that 4th of July weekend and its been fireworks ever since!

The Proposal

Her Story: “Alex proposed 10/24/2011. He  told me he was going to work overtime so he wouldn’t be home until about 11:00 a.m. I didn’t think anything of it because it’s not unusual for him to stay over at work. We talked that morning while I was taking my daughter to school and he said he would see me in a few hours. ”

When I got to the door of my apartment, I was startled. I took a step back as scenes from Criminal Minds, a show Alex and I enjoyed together, popped into my mind.  “As I opened the door of my apartment scenes from Criminal Minds popped into my head (Alex and I favorite show) at the sight of something red on the floor. As I opened the door a little more, the sound of Brian McNight “The Only One for Me”, drifted through the doorway and red rose petals lined the walkway from the door to the kitchen table that ended in the shape of a heart with a ring box neatly placed in the middle and there stood “My Sweetie” (Alex). I immediately started crying as he picked up the ring, got down on one knee and asked “Will you marry me?”

His Story: “ Once you find that person you truly love and know you want to spend the rest of your life with, that’s when you know you are ready to propose.”

How and why did you pick your vendors?

Events by Frances- Caterer- Ms. Frances, listed on Oh-Brides, came highly recommended based on her food, her friendliness, and willingness to assist in creating the perfect menu selections, while helping you to stay within your budget.

Darrell Moye - Photographer- His work spoke for itself!!!!! He is the Best, he captures moments as they are happening and he makes it beautiful! I love the way he captured the genuineness of our love in our photos and did not make it look like a photo shoot! Darrell is also listed on Oh-Brides.

M & W Designs  -  Floral, Planning and Décor- This team is great. I had saw on Oh-Brides that a featured Bride had mentioned using them.  I first met them when going to view the Terminal Station and just so happen they were there setting up a reception taking place that day.  I knew from that moment that I had to have them. They had setup a beautiful reception and I think it was meant for me to see it. They are doing my flowers, they helped in making the selections of my linens and they put together my layout for how the reception will be setup I really have to say they have made planning so stress free for me.

Slice- Cakes and Confections- Cake Lisa Mae’s  was my first choice, but she was booked for the day of my wedding. I had seen Slice featured on Oh-Brides but I did not know she was Lisa Mae’s daughter!  When she told me she could make the cake I said, “Sure” (she obviously learned from the best)!  We met with Shannon , did a tasting, and I was sold. Shannon’s cakes were not only delicious but beautiful!!!

AJ the DJ Entertainment -Music A.J, The Best D.J. in Middle GA,  was very professional. I was familiar with him from past events and just by word of mouth. AJ has a great reputation all around Middle GA. When I received AJ’s contract I was so impressed with the professionalism  that I knew he was going to be my DJ!  Not only  because he knows how to get a party started, but because I knew he was going to exceed my expectations.

Brilliant Linens-Linens- When I went to Brilliant Linens I loved the willingness of the sales associates to assist me in selecting linens for my wedding. I was greeted by someone who knowledgeable about the product selection and could answer all my questions. Since I didn’t know much about linens, it really meant a lot to have someone right there to explain all the choices and selections.

What has been the most rewarding/challenging aspect about planning the wedding?

The most challenging aspect of planning the wedding was selecting a cake that was unique and classic.

Real Wedding Katherine & Barry

Bride’s name: Katherine Latrea Elliott
Groom’s name: Barry A. Ficklin
Wedding date: September 09, 2011
Ceremony/Reception location: Georgia Railroad Freight Depot- Atlanta, GA
Photographer:  Moye Photography

Proposal/Engagement Details:  As part of my birthday celebration, we decided to celebrate every weekend in June of 2010. On June 11th, Barry decided that we would go out to eat at the restaurant where we had our first date, Zen, a hibachi restaurant in WR. He had already coordinated the proposal with the staff and even the people seated at our table. After dinner, he had the staff bring out the ring while he was down on one knee and the people seated with us were taking pictures. It was awesome and totally unexpected!

Most memorable moment:   The most memorable moment was our first look.  It was just me, Barry and the photographers.  It was magical!  It was the first time we saw each other in our wedding garb. It was the best decision we made during the entire wedding planning process.  Because we took most of the pictures before the ceremony, we ended up with LOADS of amazing images. We had tons of fun and we got to enjoy each other in such an intimate way. And at the ceremony, we were both so much more relaxed.

Any other fun/unexpected moments:  A funny moment was when the ringbearer got bored and threw his pillow at me during the ceremony!

Any DYI projects:  Save the Dates, Invitations, Programs, Tears of Joy Packets, Aisle Runner, Cardbox, Ringbearer Pillow, Flower Girl Pomanders, Bridal Bouquet and Bathroom Baskets
